Dancefloorensick is a six-part visual mixtape by Riccardo Benassi. Shot at a September 11, 2021 Tanzdemo [dance demonstration] street party protest against nightlife restrictions coinciding with the cancellation of tenant protection laws.
During the pandemic, many turned to digital platforms to get their dance fix. Of course, being a square on a screen—or a voyeuristic blank—isn’t the same thing as sharing physical space. Turning our cameras on is a reminder of the cameras turned on us—the visibility that can be both a tool and a weapon.
